Museum dedicated to Tijl Uilenspiegel, a mischievous and prankster-like character from northern folk literature
A museum dedicated to Tijl Uilenspiegel, Tijl the Mischievous, a character of mischievous and joking acrobat in the popular literature of Northern Germany. The Belgian writer Charles De Coster, in The Legend and the Heroic, Joyous and Glorious Adventures of Uilenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak in the Land of Flanders (1867), made Tijl a figure of the Flemish resistance against the Spanish occupation in the 16th century. The museum is located next to the town hall, in the Huyse de Grote Sterre house, where the tourist office is also located.
