Tupungato means "star gazer" in the indigenous Huarpes language. It is also the name of a giant volcano that culminates the plains of vineyards from the top of its snow-covered cone at 6,500 metres above sea level. Located southwest of Mendoza at an altitude of between 900 and 1,200 metres above sea level, the town produces some of the best grapes in the region from which high-quality wines, especially white wines, are made. These exceptional conditions have for many years attracted several large foreign investors, mainly French and Dutch, thus multiplying the number of family wineries
