This kibbutz was created in 1973. It is a good example of the diversification of economic activities within the desert. In addition to its plantations, Ketura has an experimental botanical garden and an seaweed production plant (Alga Technologies). Since 2011 the kibbutz has also had a solar power plant composed of 18 500 photovoltaic panels. This facility linked to the national network produces about nine million kilowatt hour electricity per year and feeds much of the region.
