Cockburn Town is the main village, the "capital" of the island. A small peaceful village with narrow streets, Cockburn Town has several churches, a police station, a drugstore, two grocery stores and some bars. A small, desolate cemetery with its tombstones in the sand facing the sea. The museum of San Salvador, the result of an associative initiative, unfortunately closed its doors after hurricane Wilma in 2008 and has not reopened since. Finally, a modest Straw Market was created in a brand new building, but don't expect anything grand: projects are still in progress.
