Freeport, the modern main city of the island, does not offer much charm. The administrative buildings, recognizable by their pink color, and the small shopping malls mark the downtown area, which one would almost pass by, so lacking in relief and personality. The residential areas, with modern houses nestled in tropical gardens, spread out all around. On the outskirts of the center, the Pine Ridge neighborhood marks the site of the old Freeport village, and the ruins of old churches can still be seen.
