Adjacent to Alice Town, just before Porgy Bay, we leave the chief town without even noticing it. It is in Bailey Town that the majority of the inhabitants of Bimini live. In tourist terms, we will stop there to meet Ansil Sauders or to taste a good conch salad at Joe's Conch Stand, unmistakable on the main road. In reality, you don't come here to visit a place but to meet a man. Ansil Saunders, born in Bimini in the early 1930s, is a renowned bone-fisherman, and without a doubt the most famous fishing boat builder on the island, if not in the entire archipelago. His workshop is an Ali-Baba cave that lives up to his memory.
