Founded in the 1830s, Shreveport is the third largest city in the state. Together with Bossier City, its sister city on the other side of the Red River, it has a population of approximately 400,000. Known for its casinos, it also has a major film industry and a thriving cultural and arts scene, as evidenced by the developing Shreveport Common district. The area boasts a number of arty venues popping up all over the place, a thriving food scene and beautiful natural sites in the area, including Caddo Lake for kayaking among the cypress trees.
