Travel Guide Meseta De Artigas

South of Salto, on the ruta 3 at km 463, lies the Meseta de Artigas (literally the "Artigas plateau"), a strategic place chosen by the famous general to gather his troops. From the top of its 37 meters, the bust of Artigas (made of granite) contemplates a plain lined with eucalyptus trees. On the Meseta, there is also the Casona del Patriarca (House of the Patriarch) where visitors can learn more about the famous libertador. Every year in mid-September, thousands of horsemen arrive from all over the country to pay homage to the hero in a traditional celebration called "Encuentro con el Patriarca".
