Built between 1974 and 1979, the Salto Grande dam is a joint project between Uruguay and Argentina that has had a positive impact on the region's economy by allowing the irrigation of nearly 130,000 hectares of land. It includes a 69 m high water reservoir, which has created a 78,000 hectare lake. The latter is bordered by beaches where it is possible to rest and fish. Next to the lake, a vast 600-hectare park offers an ideal setting for a bucolic afternoon. In addition, an international road and rail bridge connects the transportation systems of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
