It is a mountain whose peak culminates at 1,320 m exactly. It is mostly made of granite and limestone. Doi Tung shelters a population of approximately 11 000 souls of various ethnic groups (Akha, Lahu, Lawa and Tai Lue) and the coffee plantations are numerous. At its summit is Wat Phra That Doi Tung, an important place of pilgrimage, where two golden pagodas stand proudly. The temple is centuries old and is said to house relics of Buddha. The top offers a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Not far away is the Doi Tung Royal Villa, former residence of Princess Srinagarindra.
