The only border post between Laos and Myanmar. The passage between the two countries was still not open to foreigners at the time of our visit. Travellers can enter Myanmar by air only. Xieng Kok is a possible stopover between Muang Sing (accessible by land) and Houay Xay (stopover on the Mekong River), but the village is not very welcoming and does not benefit from any particular site, but will attract travellers in search of adventure and authenticity. Several gargotes and a few modest guesthouses line the road down to the Mekong. Cleanliness is sometimes questionable, and the choice is limited.
