Palmares, south of San Ramón, on the other side of the Interamericana, is famous for its annual festivities that gather nearly 1 million people: the Fiestas de Palmares last about ten days and start in mid-January. As in a huge fair, families crowd around various stands. Numerous activities take place: a costume parade, a bullfight (where the bull is never killed or even injured), fireworks, concerts... These festivities can gather up to 10,000 people and are broadcast on national television. Outside of this period, Palmares is a small and quiet village.
