This small town has little tourist interest, but you will find the most pleasant climate in the Central Valley. In 1960, the National Geographic magazine even classified the town as having the best climate in the world, with an average temperature of 24°C year round. This is one of the factors that make Atenas one of the longest-living towns. It is a place that is particularly recommended against any form of asthma or respiratory disease. To the west of Alajuela, take Route 3 that leads to the Pacific. On the road between La Garita and Atenas, enjoy the magnificent views of the valley that unfold before your eyes.
