Legend has it that the inhabitants of the area were still being attacked by the Moors after the Reconquest, and they decided to group together to better protect themselves. On September 16, 1732, a stockpile of gunpowder and ammunition exploded, destroying part of the city. The bones of the victims now adorn the city's Chapel of the Bones.
