Located only 43 km north of Mexico City, the village of Tepotzotlán is worth a half-day stop on the way to more distant destinations like Valle de Bravo or Michoacán. It is also the starting point for a visit to the Route of the Convents. A highly symbolic place of colonialism - the Society of Jesus had the mission of evangelizing the sons of the Indian chiefs -, this village comes alive during the weekends, receiving many day visitors; its market unfolds around the church of San Francisco Javier (17th century), whose facade is one of the emblematic expressions of Mexican baroque art
