Travel Guide Dougouba

Take 30 minutes to visit. This Marakafi village, located 25 km from Segou, is known to everyone in the region. Out of the beaten tracks, it is better to get there with a guide, but you must know that everyone will not necessarily want to drive you… for fear of witchcraft! Depending on local beliefs, it is strongly discouraged to visit Dougouba after 18 h. It is reported that Soundjata Keita, the first emperor of Mali, fomentait an attack against the imam of Dougouba. During the course of the journey his men suddenly became blind and made half-turn. They would then have recovered normally. Today, a real Keita (massalé) does not go to this village for fear of becoming blind. On site, the reception of the villagers is very warm. One can see a very beautiful mosque, one of the oldest in the country (the sommet eggs at the top show it).
