Until recently, there was nothing very interesting in Gaoual, except for its bridge over the Koumba River, its long alley of caïlcédrats, and its few gallery forests that still shelter a few monkeys, antelopes, etc. But since 2021, the discovery of gold seams in the area has created a real gold rush. Several hundred gold miners have come to settle temporarily in the region, moving according to the discoveries. A real challenge for the local authorities and a real disaster for the environment. For the rest, this small town can serve as a stopover on the way from Boké to Koundara or from Labé to Senegal.
