Nestled between Montreux and Martigny is a village best known for its thermal eden, nestled in a superb park and boasting baths whose springs surface at 62°. The discovery of this thermal spring dates back to February 27, 1831, when a fisherman felt a sharp heat in the water as he hauled up his nets on the banks of the Rhône. The waters penetrate 3,000 meters below the Rhône through fissures in the rock, where they reach 120°C, before rising through another network of fissures to Lavey-les-Bains. According to carbon-14 dating, this interminable underground journey has been going on for 5,000 to 10,000 years.
