Overlooking a river, Andrijevica is a village with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It was founded in the 12th century by the Serbian dynasty of Nemanjić. In the 19th century, Prince-Bishop Njegoš had a small church built here: completed in 1887, it is today the oldest building in the town. Andrijevica is considered the unofficial capital of the region known as Vasojevići, one of the most important Serbian tribes in the country. According to legend, its founder, Vaso, settled in the region after the battle of Kosovo Polje (defeat of Serbian prince Lazar Hrebeljanović in 1389 against the Ottoman sultan Murad I).
