This small town at the end of the world enjoys a beautiful natural setting. Perched at 945 m above sea level and resting on the shores of the Blue Lake (Plavsko Jezero), it is dominated to the west by a veritable wall of mountains, the Prokletije massif, proclaimed a national park in 2009 and a natural border with neighbouring Albania. Mentioned under the name of Pulav in 1235 and then under that of Ribari, Plav was an important trading centre under the Ottoman occupation. At the crossroads of road access between Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo, Plav and its region were marked by wars in the 20th century, notably the NATO bombings in the spring of 1999.
