A small town 40 km east of Leipzig, Grimma is a charming town on the river Mulde; it has many old houses, a superb typical Saxon city Hotel, a baroque bridge and is situated a few kilometres north of the picturesque castle of Colditz on the Mulde, which was a prison for allied officers during the war (one can visit the museum). In the Mulde valley, more south, the castles of Rochlitz and Rochsburg are also beautiful monuments in character sites. During the last 10 years, Grimma was twice victims of severe flooding and the city actively struggles for the restoration of its damaged heritage and for securing its precarious site.
