Markkleeberg, after being more than 20 years surrounded by industrial hell that was the intensive extraction of lignite, became the chic suburb of Leipzig. There are many good reasons for this. First, the appearance of the New Lake Plateau: two of the main lakes are located on its municipality, which now places 24 000 inhabitants at the heart of an area of recreation, leisure and tourism, and increasingly valued as time passes. So to say, real estate prices exploded there. Next, Markkleeberg is full of green spaces, with southern Auenwald leipzigois, Agra-Park and the shores of lakes. Furthermore, the small town is connected to Leipzig by tram at the terminus of lines 9 and 11; It is almost as close to the attractive Südvorstadt as the downtown Leipzig. Finally, Markkleeberg is rich in architectural heritage of the Vienna era, dotted with neo-classical bourgeois villas and new Art nouveau buildings, as in the beautiful neighborhoods of Leipzig. So many reasons for surgeons, bankers, notaries and university professors to move to Markkleeberg for having, in summer, almost their feet in water!
