A small town in Lower Bavaria, neither ugly nor particularly beautiful. Its historic center is separated from the Danube by a soulless industrial zone. Deggendorf can, however, serve as a base for a visit to the nearby Benedictine abbey of Metten, famous for its opulent Baroque library. The Bavarian Forest is not far away either, and Deggendorf is one of its gateways. A town on a human scale (population 37,000), Deggendorf attracts many tourists, despite its sad banality.
