100 km north of Morondava, on the coast, this large village is a sacred place linked to the history of the Sakalava rulers: it's here that the Fitampoha ceremony takes place, when the sacred relics (known locally as dady or jiny) of the deceased kings of the Sakalava kingdom are honored. Today, tobacco, paddy, beans and cape peas are grown here. The name "Belon'i Tsiribihina" means "a lot of rot"... It refers to the fighting between Merina and Sakalava in 1818, when the entire site was littered with corpses from both sides. This town is an essential stopover on the way to the Tsingy from Morondava.
