It is there, in Ilafu, on the third sacred hill, that the caste of the bourgeois and aristocrats ("Menamaso") once resided. This name comes from "lafin-kavan'Andriana" which means "relatives by marriage", because most of the nobility lived there. Radama II had established his resort there during his reign from 1861 to 1863. Assassinated on May 11, 1863, he was buried at the top of the hill, near the current school, but his remains joined the rova of Tana at the end of the 19th century. In 1829, Laborde and Droit installed the first Malagasy factory there (it produced weapons and ammunition), in order to transfer it to Mantasoa.
