Industrial and agricultural capital perched at an altitude of 1,475 m, 169 km south of Tana, Antsirabe, literally "Where there is a lot of salt", is one of the coldest places in the Highlands during the winter. Even in the warm season, the nights are cool! However, Antsirabe is a pretty town, well located in the heart of a region that lends itself to multiple outdoor activities. Plums, potatoes, persimmons, pears and rice are carefully cultivated on all the surrounding hills and will be offered on the roadside. In the distance, the white of the cotton flowers reminds us that great spinning mills made the region famous. Today, the city is even the first industrial center of the country, with a textile company that employs more than 4,000 people. Finally, Antsirabe is the seat of an internationally renowned military school that welcomes trainees from many countries.
