80 kilometers north of Arusha (1h30 drive), in the direction of Namanga and Kenya, lies the small Maasai town of Longido, with its 120,000 inhabitants, at the foot of the mountain of the same name, which rises to 2,600 metres. It made history during the First World War: the Germans used it as a strategic military post to prevent British troops from Kenya entering Tanzania.
