The village has a pretty market, renowned for its countless fruits. There are also numerous craft stores, where you can pick up some bargains. Mto Wa Mbu means mosquito river: there is a river, which flooded the village in 1995, but not many mosquitoes. The village is an ethnic melting pot: it is populated by ethnic groups from northern Tanzania, attracted in particular by the abundance of water from the torrents. Fans can visit the Catholic mission. The cliffs of the Great Rift above the village formed the boundary between the plateaus of the Iraqi Cushite farmers and the plains of the Nilote Maasai pastoralists, until the construction of the road in the 1930s linked the large white plantations near Ngorongoro in Oldeani, Karatu and the crater to Arusha.
