At the western tip of Mopane Tongue, Xakanaxa is a beautiful lagoon and an area of swamps, floodplains and riparian forests. It is a sample of the most beautiful scenery in the delta. Labyrinths of channels, lagoons, floodplains, islands, forests... all the landscapes, all the habitats will follow one another. An enchantment! We find evergreen shrubs(sempervirens) as well as dead trees forming desolate landscapes. The latter suffered from a flood in 2010, where water stagnated around their trunks at a height of one meter and choked them. Near Third Bridge, Mboma Island has a very beautiful and varied landscape as well. The Xini lagoon is worth a visit (tsessebes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, lions, wild dogs...), as well as the road to South Gate, which predators are known to love. The Gcodikwe lagoon is accessible by motorboat and hosts the richest heronry of the delta. The animals are all there, in very large numbers. You will also contemplate magical landscapes, so prefer the afternoon to enjoy the sunset. To reach Xakanaxa by car, there are many loops, rather well signposted. By motorboat, the starting point is just a stone's throw from the Xakanaxa public campground or at Mboma Island. By mokoro, the only starting point is the extreme northeast of Mboma Island, one hour from Third Bridge.
