This area includes South Gate proper, the Maqwee area and the San-TaWani area along the Mogolelo River. South Gate is the most commonly used entry barrier for travellers coming from Maun, after 90 km of sandy track. South Gate, or Maqwee Gate, is an area of forest in which mopanes are predominantly found. When they are green, extensive and composed of tall trees, they are compared to cathedrals. The poor and often clayey soil does not disturb this sturdy tree, which resists both heat and termites. On the other hand, it is very faded by elephants, of which it is one of the preferred food reserves. On the way to Xakanaxa, campers will think of gathering some dead mopane wood, excellent for the campfire. The shelter of the forest, complemented by the clay soil that holds rainwater in several water holes, provides a perfect environment for many animals. Elephants, impalas, kudus, sassabys, Cape duikers, baboons, warthogs thrive here. On the predator's side, we find mainly lions, hyenas and wild dogs. The rodents of the forest also attract birds of prey: falcons, eagles, owls. The tracks in this section of the park are poorly developed for game drive. All of them go to the other sections without making a loop to deepen the observation. In general, mobile safaris do not spend long there. For lodging, there is a camp which is managed by Kwalate Safaris since 2009.
