From Quesnel, take Highway 26 East, often crossed by elk and deer. Barkerville, a National Historic Site since 1923, was discovered in 1862 by gold digger Bill Barker. It was a metal that turned heads and the economy of this great region at the end of the 19th century. You may be lucky enough to find some by learning about gold panning during your getaways in the wilderness. A must in the region! More than 125 historic Gold Rush buildings are still part of Barkerville's scenery and daily life. History buffs will be able to spend hours in the town's small museums and discover the many artifacts and historical documents of the period.
