Don't confuse the two Princes of the province! One is at the junction of two rivers, Fraser and Nechako, in the middle of the land (Prince George) and the other has its feet in the Pacific (Prince Rupert); both the scene of a ballet of nature lovers. In the early 19th century, trappers and coureurs des bois sailed these rivers to reach the northern territories. As early as 1821, the city was a major fur trading post before becoming an important distribution point for the railroad in 1908. In 1914, the Grand Trunk Railway earned the City of Prince George recognition and a place on the map.
