Established in 1680 by Acadians from the Port-Royal colony, Grand-Pré was the largest Acadian settlement in the Annapolis Valley region at the time. But on September 5, 1755, and until 1763, the Great Upheaval forced the deportation of over 10,000 Acadians from Nova Scotia. Today, Grand-Pré is a National Historic Site commemorating this event and paying tribute to the Acadian people. Guided tours are offered daily in July and August (in French at 10:35 am and 2:05 pm). You can even spend the night at this UNESCO World Heritage Site with the oTENTik ready-to-camp tents.
