Lunenburg is a very active fishing port with old houses and colorful buildings reminiscent of the architecture of the Old Continent. Lunenburg has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its architecture. Its shipyards have seen the birth of many schooners that went fishing on the cod banks, such as the famous Bluenose (launched in 1921) which won the International Fishermen's Trophy several times, and its exact copy, the Bluenose II (1963). This port, which in the past was a haven for pirates, owes its name to the German town of Lünenburg, near Hamburg, from where its first Protestant settlers arrived in the 18th century.
