San Antonio is certainly the most pleasant city of the three major cities of Texas. Its population has almost doubled since 1970 and the city now has more than 1.5 million inhabitants, ranking it among the top 10 most populous cities in the United States (7th place in 2019) and second only to Houston, Texas. Its historic centre, the very successful development of the banks of the river that crosses it - Riverwalk -, its Mexican identity and its basketball team are all assets that seduce visitors. While Dallas or Houston have mainly modern art museums to showcase, San Antonio has many exhibitions related to Texas history, such as the one at Fort Sam Houston Museum, for example. Remains of the past, such as San Fernando Cathedral, the Alamo or the palace of the Spanish Governor, are the charm of this great American city where skyscrapers are few and far between. The locals pride themselves on living in one of the most romantic cities in the United States. It may be pretentious, but it's not entirely false. The charm of San Antonio generally affects European visitors, who find there, among other peculiarities, a city from which they can walk through different districts without having to use the car.
