Robert Alexander Cameron, a Southern Army hero and politician, gave his name to this Gulf of Mexico fishing port. You will certainly find curious mounds in Cameron, the pimple m ounds. These are actually mounds formed from alluvial deposits and covered with vegetation, which has protected them from erosion. The gemmies, rodents of the rat family, have made their home in these mounds. Otherwise, Cameron is full of RV campgrounds to enjoy the Gulf, and a ferry across the Calcasieu Channel connects it to Holly Beach, Little Florida Beach, Mae's Beach and eventually Texas.
