Waco is known as the city of five C's: cotton, cattle, corn, collegians and culture. Waco was not founded on an oil field, but first and foremost on its agricultural industry - cotton was its oil. Waco is also known as the home of Dr Pepper Soda, the largest Baptist university in the United States and therefore in the world, and of many enlightened people who have given it a somewhat sulphurous reputation. Crossed by the Brazos River, this city surrounded by fields is a stopover to consider on the road from Austin to Dallas.
