Also called Dowes of Tower, it is shaped like a horse's hoof. Uninhabited, it is the most visited of the northern islands of the archipelago. It is the least rugged and the lowest of the Galapagos. Formed by the ancient crater of a volcano, it is now partly flooded. The salt lake Arcturus spreads out in its center and offers a beautiful landscape. Wildlife is abundant, but the island is best known as the bird island par excellence. The rarest species can be seen here: masked boobies, frigate birds and red-legged boobies, for which it is one of the rare nesting places... The vegetation is arid and mainly composed of thorny plants.
