35 km from Loja, not far from San Pedro de Vilcabamba. 1 600 m altitude. This small village is a long way from its church to blue domes, which stands out in a bucolic landscape formed by green valleys. Centre for production of sugar cane and trade in agricultural products, Malacatos has an undeniable rural charm. The village celebrations take place on 27 August: ., municipal concerts and balls. The guarapo, sugar cane juice, and the Punta, canne vie, a regional specialty from which the canelazo is prepared, flavoured with cinnamon, are tasted.
