Located on the road between Havana and Varadero, Matanzas really deserves a stop. Too often, Varadero, with its sublime beaches, steals the show, and yet the city of Matanzas has so much charm...Capital of the eponymous province, the city gathers today 128 000 inhabitants and concentrates several interesting sites. Thanks to the celebration of the 325th anniversary of its foundation in October 2018, it has been able to benefit from many restoration works: the Plaza Vieja has been restored and the Teatro Sauto, which was under construction for a long time, finally reopened in 2019. Also noteworthy, the pedestrian avenue, known as the "Bulevar" (pronounced "boulevard"), was recently renovated and it is very pleasant to walk around it because it has several stores and terraces of cafes or restaurants where it is always good to stop.
