Oursi is, opposite Gorom-Gorom, the northwest equivalent of Markoye: a large village accessible by standard car, by a track approximately equivalent to the Gorom-Markoye track. Oursi does not have the authenticity of Markoye, but it remains an important stage in the Sahel. In particular, there is its famous pond, declared a "biosphere reserve" by UNESCO, which shelters a multitude of migratory birds. This vast body of water forms a kind of green oasis, which contrasts sharply with the more desolate and generally dry landscapes of the region. With its many birds flying around the herds of zebus that come to drink there, the site is a real treat for ornithologists. Oursi is also known for its large dune. Indeed, as the first fruits of the Sahara, the Dune d'Oursi is very large. It is highly appreciated by travellers who like to camp. This orange dune is part of a vast and beautiful landscape called the tiger savannah. The alternation of longitudinal sand dunes and remnants of shrubby savannah has resulted in this characteristic landscape that resembles the pattern formed by the tiger's coat. Local guides are available on the main runway to guide travellers. However, beware of heat stroke! Hat, water bottle and sunscreen are recommended, as well as closed shoes to avoid burning your soles on the very hot sand. Finally, behind the dune, there is a small archaeological site and a museum, very well done, about these excavations. The guided tour is strongly recommended. Sunday is the market day in Oursi.
