Dori, the capital of the province of Séno in northeast Burkina Faso, is a small crossroads town of some 30,000 inhabitants, twinned with Annecy-le-Vieux for 30 years (www.echanges-sahel.org).Like Djibo, located at the gateway to the Sahel reserve and well connected to the capital, it is a centre of trade (livestock products in particular) and a meeting point for the peoples of the Sahel: the Fulani (Cenobe, Gaobe and Malebe), the Songhai, the Tamashek (Touareg). The majority of the population is Fulani and Tuareg; they came to Dori decades ago in the hope of finding pastures for their cattle and farming, but desertification makes their activities a little difficult. The village has a little charm that comes from its large and pretty pond. It is worth knowing and it is not unpleasant to spend a few hours discovering its districts, its colourful market, its craft workshops (leather work and very beautiful embroideries) and its very welcoming inhabitants.
