Tenby, once a fortified town, is now a very fashionable seaside resort. The town is indeed surrounded by two magnificent fine sandy beaches, including the southern one, South Beach, which stretches as far as Penally, a neighbouring village.Tenby, called "little fish fort" because of the fort overlooking the port, is a colourful town with many narrow streets that descend from the walled historic centre to the port, lined with facades in many colours, yellow, blue, pink. In the summer, the streets of the city centre are closed to cars and café terraces take place.Opposite Tenby, the island of Caldey (Ynys Byr in Welsh) was once one of the holy places frequented by Celtic monks. There is a 12th century Cistercian monastery, which can be reached by boat.
