To the west of Swansea, The Mumbles is a quiet seaside district that stretches along the bay and marks the entrance to the Gower Peninsula. The name Mumbles, from the French "mamelles", comes from the twin islands opposite the headland; the lighthouse stands on one of them. Developed as a place of relaxation and leisure for Edwardian and Victorian society, the stroll along the Pier to Mumbles Head skirts a bay dotted with sailboats and pleasure craft. Numerous café terraces make for pleasant stops. From Mumbles Head, you have easy access to beautiful coves and splendid footpaths.
