It is a long island with a surface area of 23.4 km². Its characteristic feature is its two peaks located in the north and south. Beaches occupy both the east and west sides of the island. To reach it from Tōkyō, you have to go to Takeshiba Pier. Allow at least 10 hours to make the trip. The main town, Honmura, is then reached from Ōshima and Shimoda. Nii-jima is a popular surfing destination in Japan with good waves all year round.
