The town of Sashikiji remains famous for its old houses with the original architecture and the different customs of Honshū. Patois and dialects are specific to the seven islands of the archipelago. The traditional garment is black black and distinctly distinguishable from kimono. Apron (belt) takes the place of obi and the headdress betrays the civil status of women. Onsen are very popular with Ōshima.
