Salt Lake City is both the capital of Utah, with all its administrations, and the capital of the Mormons, whose headquarters is Temple Square. SLC is also an important economic, industrial and commercial center of the American West. The city may not be beautiful in the strict sense of the word, but it does enjoy a magnificent setting, on the shores of the Great Salt Lake and at the foot of the Wasatch Range, which forms the western edge of the Rocky Mountains. The snow in these mountains, considered to be the best in the United States - if not the world - enabled the city to host the Winter Olympics in 2002. The city has also benefited from this nomination, with improvements to its transport network and a complete overhaul of its motorway network. At the same time, Salt Lake City has developed its hotel offer and seen its tourism potential increase tenfold.Today, Salt Lake City is the perfect destination for travelers in search of urban calm, as its 200,500 inhabitants enjoy an exceptional quality of life on well-maintained streets with their characteristic tree-lined streets. The Mormons have been building a peaceful city since 1847. In addition to its many points of interest to discover in a day or two - from the must-see Temple Square to the Utah State Capitol and Liberty Park - and its delicious restaurants to try, SLC is the ideal base for exploring the superb region that surrounds it.
