The third largest city in Armenia with 105,000 inhabitants, Vanadzor is of limited architectural interest, at least for those who are not sensitive to the Soviet aesthetic. The city also had to recover from the earthquake of December 7, 1988, whose epicenter was located in Spitak, 25 km to the west. Now equipped with a more modern reception infrastructure, the city can be a stopover in the discovery of a region as wooded as that of Dilidjan. The landscapes of the province of Lori are also harsher, wilder, because of the valleys cutting into the mountains with rocky, jagged peaks, even if they are only slightly higher.
