Located about 30 km west of Echmiadzin, this small town, called Hortemperian in Soviet times, which has deeply marked its architecture, was renamed Armavir after independence, after the name of an ancient Armenian capital. The remains of this capital stand on a mound to the south of this large agricultural town, whose creation is barely older than the October Revolution that gave it its name. Capital of the province of Armavir, which was a railway hub at the time when the railway network was more dynamic and which has kept a station with limited activity, this town is known for the lush and lively market, rich in all the colours and flavours of the fruit and vegetables produced in the Ararat plain.Armavir, the provincial capital, is above all the gateway to the Sardarabad site.
