Located at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters, this lagoon is the largest natural body of water in Colombia (11.8 km long and 6.2 km wide). It is also the second highest navigable lake in South America, after Lake Titicaca in Bolivia. By climbing the surrounding hills, one can enjoy a magnificent view of the lake and its islands. Playa Blanca, south of the lake, is a beautiful white sand beach that attracts families on weekends. With its turquoise blue water, it's almost like being in the Caribbean! Some brave people swim, others just watch... Its waters are fresh, hardly 10 °C on average, invigorating! You can practice nautical activities on the lake, and visit the small villages that surround it. The easiest way to do this is to have your own vehicle. From Sogamoso, you can go to Firavitoba, founded in 1655, which soothes the mind and the wallet with its sweet landscapes and its quality handicrafts; then comes Iza, famous for its thermal waters and its handicrafts; then comes Cuitiva, founded in 1550, where the traveler can get to know the Capilla Doctrinera (a national monument) and the thermal baths; Tota, founded in 1557, and finally Aquitania, another picturesque hamlet
